About Us

Anybody who doesn't know what soap tastes like never washed a dog.

Client Testimony: Crafty Senior Soap is a marvelous product. Feels good to my skin. My back tended to be itchy all the time until I tried the Black Kettle Soaps and now I do not suffer with the dryness that plagued me. The fragrances are delightful. Their prices seem high until you actually use the soap and it lasts twice as long as a normal store bought bar of soap does. I think their products make a great gift idea! Give it to all your family and friends as I have done! Kudos! Belinda Lane, Nurse

We have been making soap now for about 10 yrs.  After I retired and needed something to do and Billie liked to do crafts, so started our company Crafty Senior Stuff with Billie making Victorian wall hangings, baskets etc.  We were doing fair but wanted to do better.  We discussed what other things we could do and we decided to get some books and learn to make soap.  Billie's grandmother made home made lye soap in an old black kettle in her back yard at hog killing time, thus the title Black Kettle Soap.  We named our plain lye soap Old Tyme 1888 Lye Soap, because Billie's grandmother was born in 1888.
The first soaps we made were good but not very pretty.  After awhile we were making better soap and getting quite a few customers who liked home made soap but we were not satisfied with the quality of our product.  We learned of the Texas Soapmakers Association and joined them.  Since joining the Soapmakers Association and attending many seminars we have expanded our product line to include Lotions, Lip Balms, Eye Cream, Sugar Scrubs and Cuticle Butter.

While at a Craft Show one day a gentleman came up to our booth and said he had been using our products and was impressed with them and asked if he could come and take some pictures of us making soap and do an article for a small town newspaper that he was Editor of.  He wrote the article and took the pictures and we were front page with color pictures.  This article was subsequently picked by the Houston  Chronicle and put in the Weekend Magazine.  Several days later Channel 13 News (Houston) called, asking permission to come to our home and feature us on the evening news, making soap. At this time we had signed papers on the sale of our home as we were getting ready to move to the Cleburne, Texas area.  They came out and did the live telecast and the rest is history.
We are very proud of our products and hope you will be one of our satisfied customers.
